Jennifer Garner, who was born in and raised in Charleston West Virginia, on April 17, 1973 is from Houston, Texas. William John Garner was her father and a chemical engineering for Union Carbide. Patricia Ann Garner, the mother of Patricia Ann, taught at an area college. In order to follow in the footsteps of her father, she earned a degree in chemical engineering. She moved into New York in order to pursue her dream of becoming an actor. The Broadway performances were followed by work in a local eatery. She had a cameo role in the series "Felicity." (It is on that show that she met her first husband, Scott Foley.) Garner had her breakthrough in her romantic comedic film "13 Goin' on 30" where she played the role of a teenage girl trapped within a 30 year-old's body. Garner picked Gary Winick as the director of her film. They continued looking for roles until Winick's passing in 2011. Garner became an ambassador of Save the Children U.S.A. in the year 2009. Apart from promoting the importance of early education, literacy and nutrition on a local level, the role of Garner also includes promotion of nationwide literacy. From 2014 onwards, Garner has been a member of the board of trustees for this group, promoting early elementary education. She has been visiting families throughout Early Steps to School Success - a program designed for parents to learn how to support their child's learning - as an ambassador.
